When an implant is planned, the condition of the socket after extraction matters as much as the extraction itself. Atraumatic techniques aim to remove the tooth while preserving as much bone and soft tissue as possible. The Aurix Atraumatic Luxation System is an 8-piece luxating elevator kit designed for this approach.

What this guide covers.

Why atraumatic extraction?

  • It helps preserve the buccal plate for future implant placement.
  • It reduces trauma to surrounding tissue, which supports healing.
  • It lowers the risk of root fracture compared with relying on forceps alone.

What a luxation system contains

A luxation kit typically includes luxating elevators in a range of blade widths and angles, straight and curved, so the clinician can work around the full circumference of different roots. For the exact contents of the Aurix system, see the Oral collection.

How to use the system

  1. Start with a narrow straight luxator in the PDL space on the mesial or distal surface.
  2. Advance apically with gentle pressure and small rocking movements.
  3. Move around the tooth, switching to wider or curved blades as space opens.
  4. Once the tooth is mobile, deliver it with forceps using minimal force.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using a luxator as a lever — this bends or breaks the fine blade.
  • Working too fast — patience is what makes the technique atraumatic.
  • Letting blades go blunt — a dull luxator crushes rather than cuts.

Pairing with other kits

The luxation system works well alongside the Root Elevation Instrument Kit for cases where a root fractures, and with a periosteal elevator for flap work.

Care and storage

Keep luxators in their cassette with tips protected. Clean immediately after use and sterilise in the cassette. Inspect blade edges under magnification and have them serviced when they lose their edge.
