Kits and individual instruments are priced differently. Comparing them fairly means looking beyond the headline price.

Why kits are often better value
- Suppliers can produce and pack instruments together more efficiently.
- Kits usually include a cassette, which would otherwise be an extra purchase.
- Ordering, receiving and invoicing costs are lower.
How to compare
- List every instrument in the kit.
- Find the individual price of each instrument.
- Add the cost of a comparable cassette.
- Add any extra shipping for multiple orders.
- Compare the total with the kit price.
Consider usage
If a kit contains instruments you will never use, deduct their value from the comparison. If you would have bought them anyway as spares, include them.
Consider time
Time spent researching and ordering individual instruments has a cost, as does time spent assembling and labelling trays.
When individual instruments make sense
- Replacing a single worn instrument.
- Adding a specialist pattern.
- Building a highly personalised tray.
